5 Healthy Hangover Cures

Good Evening Everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely day. Today I am going to present you with 5 HEALTHY alternatives to comfort food when you are "hanging" at home after an amazing night out. I haven't been out in sooooo long, but I do not miss being hangover for sure.

The obvious go to cure is water, and it is so so important. Hydration is key to recovery!

1. Cold Black Tea

Sounds horrible I know, however it is proven that if you make a black tea with sugar and leave it by your bedside and drink it when you're parching in the middle of the night, you will thank yourself later. It will provide you with the sugar you need and the caffeine to keep your body "running" while you turn back to go asleep.

2. Orange Juice

We probably all knew that one? Yes, I'd say so. And it's so simple because most of us use it on daily basis so you are guaranteed to have some in the fridge. It works best with couple of ice-cubes. Believe it or not, it is not advised to just chug it down, but to drink it slowly so it hits your stream evenly.

3. Bananas

Bananas will give you the most natural source of potassium, which you probably washed out with all the alcohol you had the night before. It will make you feel more energized and will protect the linen of your stomach before you decide to proceed with "comfort food".

4. Grapefruit

Grapefruits provide you with natural sugars which will prevent you from dehydration. Unlike the processed sugars in most of food these days, natural sugars will keep the water required for your organism to start the recovery process.

5. Tomato's

Surprisingly tomato's are a great source of natural potassium and they also lower your blood pressure. They supply your body with the required amount of Vitamin C.

On a side note, it has been proven that if you consume greasy food prior to alcohol intake you will lower the effects of hangover the next day. This is clearly not a healthy option, however it is an option for some and a yummy one!

As always, there are some Do's & Don'ts to everything, I have listed couple of the Don'ts incase you didn't already know:

1. Comfort Food/Grease

It's the first to "go to" cure by many (myself included), however it is actually proven that it makes you more vulnerable, it provides you with all the wrong nutrients such as processed sugars, saturated fats and oils. The sugar lengthens your recovery time with fats making you tired and "unable" to recover as fast.

2. Fizzy Drinks

Again, prime example where we think our body requires the sugar however the sugar drives on the leftover alcohol and can also lead you to being drunk again if consumed in large amounts. Fizzy drinks only quench your thirst for couple of minutes, in fact making you even more thirsty.

A friendly suggestion also - don't mix your alcohol :)

I hope you enjoyed it, and be sure to let me know what your hangover cures may be, what you found working and not working for you.

As Always,

Lots of Love,

Joanna xoxo
