Picking up the pieces...

So... bank holiday weekend is nearly over! Any other time it would not make a difference to me, however I am starting my new job tomorrow and this means I too have to get up in the morning!! (Raging! - about the getting up early part).

So I thought I'd give you an update of where I was in terms or my life overall, as on Instagram and Facebook you can only see snaps of things I am doing and same goes for Snapchat.

Some of you have been wondering what happened with my last job etc, so I thought I'd give you a low down on what's been happening.

I have been working in the hospitality industry in Ireland since I was 15 years old. I have always loved hotels and airports, I suppose because of how busy they were and the vibe surrounding them. As a child you always imagine in your head the stories these people must have and wonder where they are going.

I have always loved people watching and trying to guess what type of lives they lead.

Once I finished secondary school I went onto studying in DIT - International Hospitality Management. After 4 years of learning in college and countless hours of slaving in various hotels I realized I loved hotels and everything about them apart from actually working in them! (Bad timing i know).

After college I went onto living in Boston and then New York still following my hotel story and I have absolutely fallen in love with New York. I have been living in Ireland for 12 years and i felt more at home in New York after 1 year than over here after all these years.

New York is still my dream place to be and hopefully after the wedding I will manage to get back there, that is if Donald Trump is not selected president by then!

Once I returned to Ireland from states I worked at hotel Reception for couple of years and I strongly believe that's what broke the camels back for me.

People who complain the most are the people who have never worked in the service industry in their lives and those are the most difficult individuals to deal with.

I also believe that some people should not be allowed to stay in hotels, as staff in hotels work extremely hard and have to put up with numerous of characters that walk through the doors already.

It is safe to say, I no longer wanted to be the punching bag for unhappy customers, who complain about things out of my control just to get free stuff. This also does not give them the power to verbally abuse you should they feel to do so.

Don't get me wrong, my new job is also in a hotel and until I get my blogging up and running i will stay in hotels, however this time it is in an office and I will not have to deal with guests directly so it is still incorporated what I can do best but not having to deal with complaints so it's a win win situation.

If I can give one piece of advice to anyone who is looking to change jobs: If you are coming home stressed, and unhappy and bring this atmosphere onto your family and your relationships be this your partner or friends - QUIT. Do not let a job jeopardize your life.

Of course, this came at a cost. This change in my life was not at a perfect time, while every penny counts towards my wedding, I was very anxious during this transition period. I didn't know how long I was going to be unemployed for and telling my potential employers that I will need 1 month off for my wedding during summer period definitely did not work in my favor. However if you have the luxury to do so and support from your family and friends and need a change then definitely go for it!

One, very important thing to remember is: WE WORK TO LIVE, NOT LIVE TO WORK

i hope this answers some of your questions and don't hesitate to give me a shout!

All My Love,

Joanna xoxo
